Heat shield for I-6 exhaust manifold
« on: July 31, 2014, 08:07:44 PM »
In talking with a friend who has a 66 I-6 that they bought
when it was less than two years old he said that it had
a heat shield over the exhaust manifold and he has heard
of a few others that have seen one. Don't believe it was
standard equipment but just wondering if Ford had a TSB
(technical service bulliten) for a shield that was available if
needed, anyone know if there is a place to search the
TSB's from back then to see if there is one?

So this was a heat shield that was routed/connected to the air cleaner snorkel like the other applications/purpose for one?

Jeff, I don't have too many details but from what I understand it was probably just used to
shield the heat from the carb but not have a tube that runs to the air cleaner as we see on the 289.
My friend says his Dad took the shield off because it rusted and was falling off.
I have never seen one so thats why I wondered if it might have been a TSB fix that not many cars got?

There is only a couple of site with some of the TSB's posted - I gave up scanning after the first thousand or so :(

Never heard or one  but will give it a try

Looked at the low mile 66  unrestored 6 cylinders and found none there.  Guess we could check the MPC also

Ok checked the MPC  and no heat shroud part or replacement heat shield for a 66 6 cylinder was listed

Fixes would often be released after production was stopped on that year and model but not always

Checked the TSB cheat sheet  (Passenger car index) for 6 months following 66 production and no subjects related to 66 6 cylinder exhaust or engine heat shield that I can see) only a 170, 200 California engine reference about IMCO and Thermactor

Also just got through reviewing all the TSBs from the 66 model year production span and there was no reference to any heat shroud used on a 6 cylinder 140 or 170

Just reporting
