1968 Shelby brake booster check valves
« on: October 17, 2014, 11:22:39 PM »
I have found two different valves used on 1968 Shelbys

The first was a white check valve with a plain top. It was painted black with the booster.

The second was used later in the year ( includes all KRs ) it was black plastic and has the word "MANIFOLD" embossed on it.

Can anyone confirm/deny these findings?

Got any pictures ;)

Where on the valve is the word MANIFOLD?

Will look through my pictures at the NJ cars

Yes. One with manifold came into play about mid Feb 68. Basic Mustang stuff

Wasn't there a service campaign replacement?

Don't recall on in 68 but there was one for Midland boosters in 67 (there were two campaigns for that issue)

That was for the smooth style check valve. They were marked with a red paint daub because the improved ones were identical to the inferior ones so the improved replacements were marked with red. The manifold marked ones were a later evolution of the midland check valve. As Tim says seems to be from about Feb 68 on.

Marty,I am not to big to admit Tim schooled me on this later check valve aspect a few years back and my observation since confirmed the evolution so you are not alone. We all learn from each other.   :D

Did find the same two valves mentioned. - The ALL was impossible for me to prove in pictures but will accept that they didn't put different valves (on the boosters) on different applications during the  second half of the production year. And also that a fair amount of the ones we see even in unrestored cars may have been replaced like any parts we find.   Did find a number of later cars with the valve that matches the one in the picture you posted - have you noticed a difference in where the word in in comparison to the nipples. Have one that is 180 degrees off from the others it appears.

Bottom line is that yes I've seen those valves and you guys have spent allot more time with cars built from that plant during that year.

Those two from me are from 2 virgin KRs that just came into my shop yesterday. Note the cool flat rubber cap
Just to be clear its not a KR thing but Mustang thing. Because all KRs were built after Feb they would have the manifold
