Title: 1967 Late Shelby GT 500 Hood Air Vents
Post by: kkupec02 on December 25, 2019, 10:06:50 AM
On late 1967 Shelby GT500 cars with the outboard lights, should all of them have the extra side vents for cooling on the hood. I see most outboard light cars without the extra hood side vents. I thought that the production change to outboard lights automatically meant extra hood cooling vents on either side of the hood scoop? Happy Holidays to all!!

The 67 Shelby's with the louvered hood were meant to only be used on the cars with factory air regardless of if GT 500 or GT 350. With that said some very late production cars may have had the louvered installed from the factory as Shelby it has been theorized did not want to make another minimum order from the fiberglass sub contractor at the end of production rather then use up inventory already on hand. At the very least there were so many extra louvered hoods at the end of production that they found their way into Fords parts inventory. If you ordered a hood from the parts department you got a louvered hood many times instead of a non louvered . You had no means of choosing.  That is how many ended up on cars. Back in the day it was cheaper to buy a new hood rather then repair a slightly damaged hood. Professional fiber glass repair was not widely available and consequently relatively expensive to have done.

If haven't done so, you should hire or have Shelby expert in hand when you go inspect or consider any Shelby.
You should not rely on the seller.
