Title: Coat hooks
Post by: 68 GT on March 01, 2024, 02:54:31 PM
Does anyone know where I can buy a set of coat hooks for a NJ 67 coupe? NPD has item 29025-2A, but they don't look like the coat hooks I removed from the car. The mounting screws looks correct though. Attached are some pictures of the coat hooks I removed from the car.

The NPD part is correct. Strange as it may seem, the coat hook is the same as 65-66 Fastbacks and hardtops, but it is a full size Ford part, C4AB-62290253.

Hmmmm. The pictures of the NPD coat hooks don?t look like the ones I removed from the car though. I would have to believe that the coat hooks I removed from the car would be original. Our car was bought new by my wife?s grandpa and has not left the family, can?t imagine that they had ever been changed out. I?m confused.

It's been 56 years. A lot of wear and tear (and corrosion) can happen in that amount of time.
Your choice, NPD 29025-2A, or something else.

I did some more searching. NPD 29025-1 looks like the ones I took off, see my previously posted pictures. But they are for a 65-66 coupe or fastback. Would it be possible that my car had coat hooks from a 65-66 installed from the factory?

Try Ebay!

I am working on a 67 convertible and the coat hooks were different from the aftermarket.  I had the hooks re-chromed and put the originals back in.

Those are not like the original style, C4AB-62290253. The originals have three vertical "grooves". The above are "smooth".

No.

Okay, so the ones with the 3 vertical ?grooves? are correct for the 67 NJ coupe. But, I?m telling you that the ones I removed from the car are a match to the 65-66?s. You can see that in the pictures. The only explanation on how they got installed in the 67 I?m restoring is that they were installed at the factory, the cars build date is 5-11-67. As I said, this car has only been in our family since purchased new and would have no need to have replaced the coat hooks. My father in-law knows what has been done to the car since 1967, no interior modifications. So the only explanation has to be a mistake at the factory.

The question, if we follow the possibility, would be, what would 65-66 versions be doing sitting around the car assemble plant nine months after they stopped using them?

And of course if so yours would not be the only car with them so we need to look at other examples around the same production period

Guessing your car is somewhere around the 7T255xxx range?

7T01C246xxx, build date 5-11-67. I just can?t explain the smooth 65-66 coat hooks when the car is a one owner with no interior mods prior to the disassembly for the restoration.  But I understand what you?re saying.

Just going to be a myster at this point I guess.

Not many pictures as its not typical that people take pictures of that specific part on their car

Thanks for the pictures Jeff. To me, the bottom right picture 7T293xxx, looks like the coat hooks I removed from our 67 coupe. I know the picture isn?t very clear, but if you zoom in, that coat hook looks like it has a different shape than the other 3 pictures.

Would agree that the picture might be but sorry it wasn't any clearer. So we may have two examples just need to find more to support the possibility especially from what appears to be late build NJ examples
