Deck Lid Lift Support

Deck Lid Lift Support - that's what Ford calls the part in the catalog (gas struts?).

I replaced the originals with OEM replacements since the originals are totally depleted and no longer would hold the deck lid in position.  But the new supports are identical in appearance but painted differently, with blue stenciled lettering instead of the original dark red lettering.  Original support is bottom of pic.  What would you do, save the originals even though they're functionally useless?

Btw, what a difference the new supports make in lifting the deck lid.
