I don't think they used a punch cause they were installed at the dealerships after delivery!

It wasn't a punch, it was 2 drill-bit sizes. You can accomplish making the small hole relatively easy. I have used a step drill-bit to do the larger one, you can buy them at Lowe's or Home Depot. Heat can be a factor if you're doing this on a freshly painted fender, so be careful. Also, cover over the fender and cowl so no hot bits/shards get on the paint. They can leave little burn marks.

I have a set of knock-out punches. My only concern would be the way the blade cuts, potentially twisting the metal. On an OEM piece of sheet metal, probably not a problem, but I would hate to see what would happen with a foreign-made piece!

From the template it looks as if there is a 5/16 start hole & then it is cut with a saw not a larger drill. my original fender looks as if it was cut with a saw as well.

To create a nice clean hole without sharp edges, you can get yourself a "GreenLee" punch. Verify hole size needed. The punch come in three pieces, top & bottom cutting punch and a bolt. Only need to drill hole for small bolt. Use a wrench is all you need. You will like the results. All machinist and tool makers know about this punch. Good luck

You need to be able to access both sides of the fender to use a Greenlee punch, one side for the die and the other for the punch. The die side is where the bolt is located. The hole will have a slight edge on the die side. You still need to drill a hole the antenna base "key" (although a Dremmel tool or rat tail file may work). The hole size is around one inch dia (I can't find my template) and e-bay has one for $39. CHECK DIAMETER BEFORE YOU BUY.

I did mine with a hole-saw bit and a variable speed drill motor. Used a file to create the key-way. Brian
