Exhaust port
« on: February 23, 2024, 08:29:01 PM »

What is the general opinion on the correct finish on the cast aluminum exhaust port for the 69/70 Shelby's?  I have one reproduction and one original (blasted clean) side by side here.  Does anyone have photos or seen low mileage original to confirm.

The original finish is fresh cast aluminum and has a smooth enough surface that it looks very lightly polished .The S9MS engineering number is in a slightly different location and different font on the numbers and letters on the repro compared to the original. The original was painted black inside and many of the repro come unpainted. That painted part is easy to replicate on the repro. The outside finish on the new fresh repro part is comparable to the original finish when it is new . It is hard to replicate that new finish on a used original.

Thanks Bob...I will play around with a few things to change the finish a bit on the original one to improve it.  Plus the original piece has the engineering numbers and this particular reproduction has none so I am better off reusing it.
