Title: 96 convertible front windows not working?
Post by: 2+2=GT350 on June 28, 2018, 10:19:07 PM
As stated the front windows (electric) will not go up. The backs work fine, I am thinking they are on the same fuse, which I checked, all other electrical items seem fine, top, radio, lights and such. I have yet to tear into the door panels as YouTube shows how. Just thought I would start here first. Thanks in advance.

Did both quit at the same time?

Two things commonly fail when they both quit at the same time. If you don't know when they quit (as in you just bought the car), more things are possible.

Master switch is the easiest to "switch" out but my money would be on a broken wire inside the door hinge area. The wires break because the door gets opened/closed several thousand times on a +10-year-old car. I just fixed my mom's Taurus a few months ago for this same issue.

Pull the accordion boot back from each end and start tugging on wires, one-by-one...should be easy to find the broken one.

Ok thanks. Yes they both quit at same time and I have had the car for a few years and they use to work. I will check this out and get back. Thanks again.

Does the right side work from its switch ?

No , the switch on passenger and driver side will not operate the windows. The driver "master" switch will only operate the rear windows, no operation of front either side. Thanks
