Is there a product that I can use to clean up my alum t-10 case? The trans is going in for inspection and synchros and I'm not wild about glass beading the case but looking for a spray product, perhaps a mild etch that will clean the alum and retain the shiny smooth original finish. I've considered tumbling but don't have a tumbler large enough in my local area. Any feedback welcome.

There are products such as aluminum cleaners available in liquid form. You can get the gallon size at places that sell to supply the trunking industry. Its commonly used for tanks and running board. The challenge I've always found it keeping the item your cleaning is keeping the whole item wet and equally covered. If you don't you'll see lines and differences between one area and other.
Another choice is find a place that rebuilds engines or transmissions and see what they will charge to run the case and tailshaft housing through the process
Just a couple of options

I used Eagle brand wire wheel cleaner and some brass brushes. After it was clean I sprayed with Boesheild protectant. I was happy with the results.

Where did you fine the Boeshield protectant?

i got mine at a woodcraft store. woodworkers use it to protect saw blades & tabletops.

Sears sometimes carries it.
I ended up purchasing Corrosion X off the internet. Same thing basically - no cheaper :(
NOTE POSTED 12/2016: Be aware that this product can have a negative affect on rubber products. Something that has been noticed over long term usage

Sears has it available on line and in some stores. On sale for $20 and includes a bottle of rust remover.
