Just curious to see what others observations might be. i also understand there might be some variation during 1968 Shelby production.

Mine had less forward of the shock towers, probably because there was still work to be done post assembly line installing the Shelby bits.

Looking at the pictures I have of originals - have to toss out ones that obvious been coated with dealer or aftermarket undercoating

Here  is what I found - best I can tell it looks like very little to none

68-Unknown 500 conv

68-202

with a little rattle can thrown in on  the frame and elsewhere

68-2669 Can't explain the amount and location. Rest of the car appears to not have any added coating. Passenger side is like all the other cars as appears the rear part of this same wheel well   :o

68-03S173663

68-2985

68-3416

68-3622

68-216161KR

Hope this helps

Pete,
The one category missing from your poll should be, " depends on build date"
Think you'll find early cars had it later no.
So none on KRs  ;D

Know we've discussed this in the past. Notice that the last two pictures I posted have a very thin coat of sound deadener (not thick or ugly enough for undercoating) that someone started scrapping through.   Just the messenger    ::)

I see it but what we are talking about is post blackout inner well deadener. Product I'm seeing looks like sealer. 2nd KR obviously has had sheet metal work

Looking at the last picture - rear inner panel where the panels don't show any repair other than the hinge nuts, it looks like a thin layer of sound deadener to me. It is applied to the surface and not directed at the seams. Looks like an owner started scraping it way or maybe pressure washing produced that look.

Might be a car that got treated differently than expected or planned. Its only one example

Looks very consistant with what I have seen. As Tim mentioned a handful of very early cars were different.

Maybe word will get back to the judges deducting points for lack of deadner.

One of the purposes of mentioning/discussing it here and elsewhere. It might be a good idea for a time to include a mention in the printed rules. Just as a reminder for some and a teaching tool for others.
