Tilt steering woes
« on: October 22, 2018, 12:06:46 PM »
Have a '70 Cougar in the shop with tilt steering. The tilt does not seem to lock in place, and it has sort of a racheting up and down movement. Has anyone encountered this before. Is it broken or perhaps something loose in the column? Maybe an adjustment. I've never had on apart before, so I thought I would ask.

           Thanks,  Pete.

The pins on the knuckle may have backed out.  Check on west coast classic cougar website.  They sell repair parts or can rebuild the column.

See if this helps identify your problem.

Accurate looking but not a Concours Restoration/build. See my build photo gallery at 69GT350 Hertz Build

Thanks guys. Got the steering wheel off and the lower plastic column cover. There is indeed a small pin that has backed out of the 'cog' that locks the column in place. The video was very helpful too. Going to attempt a repair.

                     Thanks again,  Pete.

WCCC sells a repair kit with the E-clips on the ends of the pins, best solution for the issue and it will ensure no repeat failure of the same.
