Water pump

Hi everyone,
I had a little leakage on my 64 1/2 water pump, so I decided to dismantle and change the gasket.
I noticed one bolt was missing out of 9, that could explain the leakage.
I noticed also the the outlet on passenger side, towards the cylinders block was fully tapped with white sediments (look like salt). I cleaned everything but I'm wondering :
- how it could worked like this
- why it was tapped on passenger side and not on driver side
taking into account that on my 2 years ownership I always used the correct coolant (yellow/green colour)

Consider a replacement kit from AMK products https://www.amkproducts.com/ Look up kit - F-487. It's for a 289 with an aluminum pump, no A/C (a different kit is used for A/C) consisting of 9 bolts - $25.00. Knowing how time is the enemy, it is not surprising of the residue you found. Because of your location, shipping might be a problem. Check with them.
I've used the AMK kits on several of my 65-66 Mustang projects and am satisfied.

It is tapped on the  driver's side and the tapped hole goes all the way into the block. From best to worst.

- The previous owner left the bolt out.
- You might have a bunch of junk in the tapped hole (corrosion).
- The bolt broke off inside of the timing cover bolt "tunnel". When corroded the bolt likes to break an inch or so from where it screws into the block.
- The bolt broke even with the block surface.

Digging in my own reserve of bolts, I was able to find the correct one, so no worries
You are right : time is the enemy. This car have been stored in a garage in southern California from 2010 to 2020. Then sold and shipped to France but didn't move much up to dec, 2021 when I bought it. I had the relevant problems : change of seals, gaskets, hoses...

There isn't broken bolt, just a missing one which explains the leakage and the sediment deposit
Indeed there is corrosion inside
I was thinking of using a radiator cleaner from Bardahl to clean the whole cooling system ; what do you think ?
