Engine Painting & Detailing- May 64 D Code
« on: August 31, 2023, 08:08:48 AM »
I am just inventorying the 64.5 convertible project I picked up. It is a May 12 Dearborn car with a 260 automatic.   I am completely new to the 65-66 Mustangs so I will be asking a lot of questions.

I searched this forum for engine paint color and found some great information (Ditzler 11297).  Attached is a picture of my engine behind the carburetor.  Does this color look correct?  Is the way the vacuum components are painted correct?

Thank you,

Corey

Here's a late April '64 pace car that I restored with a 260 that may help for reference.  Of course, best to use multiple resources, including unrestored cars.

Also, during the time your car was built, only Dearborn was producing Mustangs, so that makes it a little easier.

Thank you this is very helpful.

It looks like the 260 should be painted black.

+1 on black. make sure that you have all the 'black' parts installed prior to painting.

If anyone has a list of black components that would be most helpful.  I am at the very begining of a long educational journey.

I looked in in the 1964-65 Mustang Exploded View Illustration Manual and it looks pretty much exactly what my car has.  I am brand new to 64.5 Mustangs so just trying to figure out what is correct and what is not.  My car appears to me to be mostly un messed with.
