Topic: Octane Rod

A few weeks ago I started in on a 93 gt I just picked up.I was trying to get the timing straight and discovered that the distributor has a octane rod installed instead of the spout. The car is running ok at the moment however should I try installing a spout or leave the rod in place? Im not sure as to why its there.

I know what a spout is ( some may not though) but never heard of an octane rod. Please elaborate.
On edit, I looked it up. I guess I never heard of using different lengths. Maybe because I wasn't in to tweaking up performance on that era EEC

I’ve heard that they are commonly used to fix issues like pinging. Mostly In the truck world.  Though it doesn’t make sense as you could just adjust the timing. It’s rather confusing. Seems like one of those things I shouldn’t mess with when it’s not “broke”

I just read about them a few days ago in the Factory Turbo manual. It seems they are used for troubleshooting.
