I don't own any 67 or 68 deluxe console cars -- or Cougars either.
But I have 67 console and it has a soft pad that I can't ID. I'm assuming it's for a 68 since the 67s did not have soft pads. But it doesn't match the contours of 68 Mustangs or Cougars.
This thing is dead flat. And it covers the seat belt slots!
The metal console has holes that line up with this pad as in the picture.
What is it (no numbers on it)?

It looks like a Cougar one to me.

Is the soft pad for the Cougar in two pieces?
I've never seen one up close but some pics seem to infer the raised section on the outside is separate from this piece (?) on the inside.

But mine has stitches and the WCCC item does not.

Update subject to drill in on Cougars.

That one looks like a 68.

After a few more searches I think I finally hit on some descriptions.
This is a standard non-XR-7 auto insert. It uses the standard Mustang console with holes cast into the pot metal for the clips used on the bottom of this pad. The rear pot metal section has three holes and the front section has 2 holes.
In 67 there was also a different console style that had padding at the outside, but did not use this pad. It appears this was for the 67 XR-7.
Pic here is of a 67 non-XR-7 I found online.

Correct, 1967 standard model Cougar (non-XR7) with automatic.

That one is for a '67 - 68 XR-7.

Agree. The '68 standard Cougar has a place for seat belts in the console top.

Hey Bill
I'm new here, just signed up!
Is this something you would be willing to let go of?
I'm in the process of restoring my very first car, 67 Cougar DGS my grandfather bought for me when I was 16.
It's an original automatic car with console. I have been looking for this piece
Thank you!
