1970 map light
« on: March 18, 2024, 06:43:27 PM »
I?m a little confused. I?m sure I?m missing something. I?m trying to hook up the map lamp on the passenger side. The plug on the harness is a double female plug. But the plug from the map lamp is 1 male 1 female. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There's an interconnect pigtail that mates those two connectors, but it is extremely rare and only for 1970.  If you're not interested in concours, a simple home-made pigtain using trailer connectors (bullet plugs) will work.

David,
I looked into this a while back as I thought about adding the map light to mine. It came with an original rally clock that I did install. But to do it concours correct I believe that the map light was part of the convenience group. So as Ed says above, glove box switch, luggage compartment light and the seat back solenoids. Once I realized that I passed on it.

I just looked it is not shown in the electrical assembly manual drawing for the map light, but the harness is number 13B712, as shown in this wiring diagram and I believe the green/yellow pigtail in the drivers side trunk at the wheel well would be visible(assuming that is where connection T is in drawing 721-1 which unfortunately I do not have a copy of).

Does not list a convenience group on the Marti on this car. It only has a map light, no clock. It does have the glove box light also. That harness is made onto the map light itself. Car was apart when I got it. Also in the pic you show. It shows the dash harness with a 2 prong male female plug. The actual harness has a double female plug. So it doesn?t plug up like your diagram shows. I have made an adapter plug as advise in the post by midlife.

Yes the drawing from the electrical assembly manual drawing is incorrect.

However the wiring diagram shows that the 13B712 harness has 2 pin male plug to install into the dash harness if you look at the connector V schematic (x)(x) . Further along the convenience group harness it has a male/female connector K to attach the map light ( )(x)

Just FYI. The map light in 1970 was part of the convience group and as far as I can tell, was never available as a separate option.  The Map light plugs into the convience group harness (which also incorporates the headlight buzzer wiring and the low current part of the seat back latch system) and the convience group harness plugs into the clock harness, that's why they won't plug together without the convience group harness. I'm guessing that Ford did this on purpose to prevent assembly line errors. Most people make up a simple adaptor or change the plug when they add the maplight. I can post some pics tommorrow if there some interest...     John
