Hi,
I want to know exactly which was the assembly line distributor rotor that was used on 289 1964-1965's with single points.... I had seen two types...one with a round design and the other one with a rectangular design (see pictures).....
I have a NOS Autolite rotor with the rectangular design..... but I think that the original and earlier ones were FoMoCo instead of Autolite.

For a V8 the lower style with the Ford oval is what I've always found

Sure there is an original rotor out in the garage - just don't have a picture of it at the moment

I have seen the top rotor used on distributors that had the oiler on the side of the housing.

Although a bit unusual, the B7A prefix (found on the package) would indicate a 1957 design, well before the small Ford V8 block design we know and love was implemented.

Must have been a hell of a design to be used in so many different cars! :)

A valid point but not always a certainty . Here is a typical V8 rotor in a Autolite box with a B7 part number. There are a number of other examples like that for other parts used on Mustangs .

Thanks for the pictures.... the first one is the rounded shape and the second is the one with the shape we already know....having found the rounded one also in your garage, does this means that both shapes could be correct?

Its correct for something by not IMHO for your application. I own Fords back into the late 30's so there is often many different parts for many different applications. Just wanted to show details for both of the items you had asked about

The short rounded rotor is apparently the earlier version . It will work but is not historically correct IMO. As I said before it was used on earlier engines . I personally have seen a few on pre 65 SB distributors with the oiler caps . If you are not sure what the oiler design distributor looks like check out 2-38 of Bob Mannels book. Interesting to note The Mannel book does not cover the earlier design rotor.
