Title: battery "L" bracket 69/70 boss 302
Post by: 1970shelbyguy on February 21, 2018, 12:38:06 PM
so what's the verdict ?  was there a cutoff when the L brackets came on stream - or were all  69/70 boss 2's supposed to have a bracket-- factory hit or miss install?   for a may/69  boss 302   thanks

The 69/70 Shelby's (a node to your screen name) got them regardless of battery option and the Boss 2's were made on the same line in Dearborn so most likely were the same. 70 B2 (not Shelby) had a different one because the change in holddown bracket.

I was under the impression for 69/70 boss 302's if the apron had been drilled for the L bracket bolt then you installed one. If it was not then it did not come with one. Wasn't aware of a date cut off. Of course having a replaced apron all bets were off

The L battery bracket was  a 1970 mustang cougar part as the apron had a hump & punch out hole for installing it . 1970 shelbys were 69 built but changed serial #s over to 70 so they had the 69 type apron that never had the hump or punch out hole. 1970 battery aprons also had a dozb # by where the inside big hump was stamped into it behind battery for clearance on rad support for installing bid single headlight system changeover from 2 small headlight systems.  This is a common restoration mistake when replaceing rusted out battery aprons in 69 cars restorers replaced apron with the dozb style as that was fords service replacement part.

I have been thru this, you've seen the yellow Boss 302 way back at a show in Washington Ed.   It is a late built 69, last week of production and has a 70 front inner fender and the hole is there and was never tapped with a screw.  So there is a transition time back then as parts were put into the bins!   Original and never changed out.

Yes armond i had a  july 69 mach1 that had the battery hold down hole BUT did your car have the 70 dozb  # hump behind the battery  (for 2 headlight system) as 40 years ago i dont remember checking that then when i had the car so it maybe what  ford had on assembly line at the time dont know BUT years ago we had a low mile  last week 69  built b9 at shop & it had a 70 hood & doors on it so it maybe what dearborn had at the time on assembly line dont know.

Yes, we have a late built 1969 Dearborn Cougar with that 1970 apron. (hump and hole)

Guess we may need an open thread on very late 69 Dearborn cars and their oddities. ::)   Where we can record and compare apparent list of "70" items that made it into production early that year. We also have the marker light cars also.
