Title: 66 Hertz Car driveshaft and pumpkin markings
Post by: ChrisV289 on May 12, 2018, 06:46:50 PM
Was working on my dad's Hertz car. Driveshaft appear to be original but lots of surface rust and crap on it. Think I can make out one stripe towards the rear of the car and it appears to be a blue of some kind. Anyone else find similar or what the other two stripes might be? He plans to soak it in evaporust before a driveshaft company balances it. Also attached are pics of the third member. Found a number on the passenger side (66? Or 99) and a number on the bottom. Also a paint mark on the yoke itself. What has anyone else found?

Chris have a fair number of these markings (drivelines tend to be the most difficult) collected and cataloged Though posting all of it will likely lead others with different cars and applications to copy - the result is just more paint mark migration ;)

In general the number on the side of the case is one of two numbers typically found. May be one of two assemblers or one assembler and one inspector. The mark on the bottom of the case is a bit unusual.  May just be the rare case of the writer applying it in a untypical location just on this car

The yellow on the rear end yoke is pretty typical. Ford had a problem with driveline imbalance in 65, mechanics reinstalling drivelines differently than they came out of the car resulting in complaints and do overs so they started marking one ear of both driveline and yoke with yellow spray paint
