Title: Headliners and Sunvisors
Post by: chalkys_explorer on December 19, 2010, 05:29:38 PM

 Hi All,
payed a visit to Matt Highley at Fox Mustang Restoration in  Locust, NC yesterday. Great guy and we had many and long discussions about the Fox Mustang and SVO's. He gave me a tour of his facility, showed me some of the great products they sell and I also raided his NOS parts stash which was nice:):) I've done business with him several times and can't recommend his business enough if your looking for great products and personal, knowledgable service.

Anyway, we got to talking about interior parts and we hit a point of debate on headliner materials. To my understanding, all 84 cars had vinyl headliners and sun visors. I know the later cars had cloth for these parts, not sure if the changeover was 85 or 86, but it was my understanding that all sunroof cars came with vinyl headliners.

Case in point, my 93 LX had a sunroof and that had a vinyl headliner and cloth sun visors.

So, what's the definitive answer?? I know there will always be production line deviations but what is the most likely scenario???

I believe I rememer that my 85 SVO had gray vinyl with a small hole perforated pattern in it.

My late 5/1/84 84 has vinyl headliners and sun visors.  Sun roofs car variations might be the result of the conversion in house and outside.

Hi Kevin, thanks for the reply. I was more interested in the "factory" install but I have seen t-top conversions where they just laid vinyl material over the existing cloth after cutting the holes for the t-top opening. I guess the cloth was less suitable for the way the headliner was glued to the t-top/ sunroof frame.

My early 85 SVO, was a cloth, no sunroof car. and it had a cloth headliner,,,, and it sagged down bad just  in a few years.

Here is what I have found out. All 84's had vinyl.  All the years after that with sunroof had vinyl.
