Title: Idler arm Bushing
Post by: bryancobb on April 28, 2011, 11:03:31 AM

Hey,
I remember when restoring my 65, back in early 90's.  I got a steering idler arm with bushing already installed, new, from my local Ford Dealer.

The inner sleeve of the bushing had sharp serrated teeth that bit into the flat surface of the idler arm mounting bracket when the nut was tightened.
When I tightened it, I did not do it tight enough so when the wheel was turned 3 or 4 turns as in parking, the rubber would give, to a point, THEN THERE
was a LLLOUDDDDD POW! when the teeth disengaged and the sleeve popped around, one notch.  I tightened it up much tighter and it fixed it.

Is that how the current batch is made?  I'm not seeing the TEETH in any of the pictures.
Is that how the OEM assembly-line ones were made?
