Title: '67 GT350 Fire Extinguisher
Post by: ceswert on June 26, 2012, 10:25:22 AM
Was a fire extinguisher sold as an option on '67 Shelby's? If so what is the part #? Is it a 14 oz bottle? Also how were they attached and where were they attached? I have seen some on the passenger side roll bar. Sorry for all of the questions!

Not a option from the factory. It may be part of the over used "Dealer option " catagory that includes everything from Weber carburetors to Philco Ford battery powered TV's sold through the Ford parts department. Some of these dealer installed items are allowed in MCA concours but even the ones allowed are increasingly being discouraged because they do not represent real world dealer installed choices back in the day. In other venues these types of items are not allowed with a car unless there is reasonable documentation of it's installation when the first customer took deliver from the dealer back in the day. MCA requires a fire extinguisher modern or vintage which doesn't have to be installed but just included with the car display during concours competition. FYI Halon is the preferred  extinguisher for the car crowd . If a track car yes install the extinguisher. If you are concerned about originality do not install the extinguisher permanently. For pleasure driving and MCA judging it is a prudent idea to keep a small halon extinguisher in the car stored behind the driver seat for easy access IMHO.

Thanks Bob. The previous owner installed a large, newer bottle and attached it to a frame on the passenger side floor. Looks like the frame was attached to the seat rail?

Previous owner did a nice job of NOT drilling any additional holes to mount it. Sure we talked about it not being factory ;)
