Title: 71 Mustang Mach 1 axle housing
Post by: Ashley on November 20, 2014, 10:37:08 AM
Anyone have info as to factory markings on axle housing and gear case?  Also what did numbers on paper band mean for housing assy.  Car is drag pack equipped with 3.91L gear!  Build date 3-17-71

I cannot say I have seen a consistent pattern in the markings on the rear axle.  I had a large marking on the bottom of the center section and an OK on the very end of the right side tube.  Each axle had its own personality/markings.  If you cannot find any legible on yours I would hold off on making any.

The paper tag wrapped on the left axle tube represented the assembly in production. The code should coincide with your buildsheet.  Note that the differing codes had differing paper colors.  Try contacting Jack and Dead Nuts On.  He was gracious enough to help me out on my quest for an axle tag.
