Date & Block code
« on: July 27, 2016, 07:13:52 PM »
My 70 mustang has a build date of September 1969, I am trying to get the correct block that has the correct date & part code.

You should get into the habit of putting down all the data needed, like what engine. In any case, the engine assembly date should be at least two weeks prior to the actual vehicle assembly date, verified by a Marti Report. The engine casting date will be prior to the engine assembly date so that is not a problem. So, all that's needed is - what engine. The plant might be an issue as well. To get the actual original engine is probably not possible.

Really no "correct" date but instead most would look for one in an acceptable range. Looking at the small sampling I have I would look for blocks cast two to one month prior to 09/18/69. One or two weeks prior to that would not cause concern for most IMHO

The original engine would have had the cars VIN so your replacement will have a VIN from another vehicle but that's what happens when you have to find a replacement

Was there some kind of drop tag/paper work that accompanied the engine to ensure that the right VIN stamped engine married up with the right car?

+1 About the same time the transmission was being mated with the engine
