67 Shelby "Hood" Ground
« on: July 28, 2018, 04:55:59 PM »
The subject of the Shelby/Mustang hood ground being present on 67 Shelby's came up on another site and since I posted a group of pictures illustrating the practice of San Jose installing them and them remaining on the car through the Shelby conversion, though they would serve no purpose on most of the cars, I thought I should share them here also.

What is shown is how there were/are typically found - spanning across the production year. Hopes this helps

The first photo is how they were installed. All the others are the result of someone bending it out of it's proper position. The little pointy tabs are intended to scratch through the paint and ground a steel hood.

Your mentioned proper position does not apply to a Shelby in this context. They where not intended to dig into the fiberglass Shelby hood and very often seen bent down most likely at SA.

Would add picture #4 also if we were talking about 67 San Jose built Mustangs. Little tweaks are often found on parts that made up Shelbys for one reason or another by Shelby. Another is (for certain periods in 66 production) the bending of the metal hood rear weather strip retainers - hammered down at the outer edges to avoid contact with the thicker fiber glass hood its believed
