Thermostat Housing C8AE-8594B
« on: February 07, 2019, 04:11:17 PM »
Anyone have one they are willing to part with that doesn't look like it was on the bottom of the ocean for 40 years?  Dated between Jan '67 and July '67 would be great, but not a necessity.  Not interested in the repops.  Thanks.

They show up from time to time on Ebay.  You have the easy one to find.  Be thankful you don't need the '67 housing.  Here is an NOS being offered for 125.00

That one on eBay looks like it is the later cast iron service replacement.

Response from the seller is aluminum. I have never seen a Ford service replacement in iron for an FE.

I have owned several of those and all were cast iron. The repros look pretty decent to me at the price.

They may be fine as far as fit and function, but to me they aren’t even close to original.  I’m only using OEM unless I have no choice.

You ought to check with Phil P. he lives pretty close to you and likely has one.

The housing is Ford. Ford didn't do Iron in the C8 or C7 housing.  The housing I posted is NOS aluminum. 125.00 beats 600.00 for a C7 housing, if you can even find one anymore.
I did what I can for you.

Appreciate the effort.  I believe the one you posted is indeed aluminum, but according to the seller the number and the date code are both illegible.  Without those key features I may as well use a repop.

You're not going to find an assembly line T-stat housing in good serviceable condition. The part number is right on the front of the housing.  You can't see the date code anyway.

I’m inclined to believe that I will.  It’s not like I need it by next week.  And if I don’t, nothing is lost.  This isn’t a hobby for the impatient or a quitter.

The housings were poorly cast and notoriously known for pitting and disintegration.  Those of us with 67 Shelbys  often wait years to find a correct one for a thermostat housing used for 10 months.   I looked for about 8 years before I stumbled onto an NOS piece. Used ones were unicorns.

As for patience, you're preaching to someone who spent 15 years digging up parts to complete my Shelby.  Those of us who have been playing this game for 35 years know the odds are against you, especially finding a good seviceable piece.

I understand what your challenges were with the unique casting.  But there were tens of thousands made of what I’m looking for.  Yes they do tend to be crappy, but at some point one will come along that’s acceptable.  And I do have a back up plan.

So for someone that’s been through the process of trying to locate hard to find parts, I’m curious what’s with the negative Nancy attitude?  Are you assuming since it’s not a Shelby I don’t have anything worth sweating over?
