Engine hooks -- All Years
« on: May 27, 2020, 10:31:26 PM »
Interesting question was posed to me and I have no good data.
"Didn't all engines have lift (or hoist) hooks?"

I went through Mannel's (see my other posts relating to exhaust manifolds, which is somewhat how I got here) and didn't see any mention of "hoist hooks" until 68. And then with a notation that the factory was supposed to remove them and didn't always do it. Just like tie down hooks.

I did see the video of the engine installation on an early car and the factory just used the exhaust manifolds and grabs them with large J hooks on a hoist. I suppose this changed later due to clearance issues.

Can we (the royal we) construct a list of engines that received,  kept or the factory wanted removal of the hooks?

Swinging for the fence are we :)

There are somewhere near 65 different combinations of engines and years in the span your suggesting. With out variations between plants
About 157 if you also consider different practices between plants -  64-73 production

Just a though "we" should consider before setting out. :)

My bat is rather wacky this week.

I haven't been in the shop much while I finish up the room construction project.
Now onto the mud work -- which I've done lots of over the years, but still messy and downright distasteful.

I did look through a number of original car pics prior to 69 and nary a hook in sight.

Yes I think we need to start over. We'll likely get a ton of responses all over the place and finding a pattern will be even more difficult. Workers at X plant removing them on all shifts with one being forgotted every once in a while where at another plant one shift was leaving them on while another was taming them off. On some years and engine sizes they are more visible than on other year and types.  Maybe we can figure out how to arrange the project better

Will delete in a day or so
