There's  a 67 rear seat speaker that has the number 18971. See pic from MPC.
It appears speakers can have different numbers than the 18808 listing.
I found what you referenced. I think this is a prime example of what is commonly referred to as "creative part number engineering", as applied to and by Ford. Ford engineering groups would come up with a "new" part, so they gave it a "new", and in many cases, part number, complete with a different base number. It worked. They got it made, installed and the car sold, and left it up to the service department to "correct" the different numbers.
The topic title indicated a 1966 application, so 67 would not work. However, with my Dewalt Sawzall, I could get it to fit, but not for a 66, and not for a Shelby.

This notation was for a rear speaker. We were talking about the (numeric) base part of the part number and I was only showing that the number existed on speakers regardless of what the MPC says.

If it's the right size for a 65/66 and it has all the other Ford markings (and a C4 at that) it may well be ok.

Please note we tend to geek out about inconsistencies in Ford part numbering (and lots of other things)!

This notation was for a rear speaker. We were talking about...

Yes, notice for Mustang ("F"- body code), it states 65 body type...so Mustang Coupe. This is an "Accessory Part", thus a different number. Yes, it would "fit in the center hole" of a 64 through 67 Mustang coupe rear deck but in ANY Thoroughbred class, it wouldn't at all be correct.

Phill,
For the record, what is the actual part number on the speaker in the box, and any date codes?
(You can justify opening the box to inspect for "speaker rot", "frame corrosion" and "worms".)

Question. OK, found a restorable OEM frame with the correct serial #'s on the magnet. My question is does this speaker, C5ZZ-18808-A, have a fabric cover over the cone???

Thanks again,

Steve

P.S.: GREAT site and thanks to all!
