C5AF-12127-M is a distributor for almost all Ford car lines using a 289CID 2 barrel carburetor for 1965 and into 66 (ex Cal smog), ref Ford Car Parts Sect 120 pg 15. The C5GF-12127-A is correct for a 289CID 4 barrel for both AT and MT, same ref page. It was originated for Comet 289CID 4V engines. Bottom line is don't believe all the stuff on the net.

I know you've specifically asked about a 07/65 car, but if it's any help; my '66 (with a scheduled build of 10/65), has it's original distributor, C5GF-12127-A, which is also date coded as 5KC. The car is a 289-4v manual trans GT.
