Early 65 Power Steering setup
« on: October 29, 2012, 09:56:01 PM »
Does anyone have a pic of the brackets used with an eaton style power steering setup on a 289 car with AC, but not the remote reservoir setup.  I think there was a certain bracket used on the regular style eaton pump that allowed it to sit lower to clear the AC compressor.  Would like to know what i am looking for when I go through a Mustang shop soon for parts...

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks Jeff that does help....Gives me an idea of what to look for.  Thinking about switching from the Ford pump to the Eaton pump if my Ford pump quit working....

Hi all, I was hoping someone here may be able to tell me what the part numbers are for the unique front and rear brackets for the 1965 Eaton Power steering pump (with A/C) brackets. The car I am restoring came with this setup but as I received the engine in pieces, these brackets were not present. I would really like to return the power steering set up back to original as I have the Eaton pump, otherwise the only other option is to go to the Ford power steering pump and bracket which I would prefer not to.
Thanks, guys (and gals) in advance.
George

Here are the part numbers in the kit instructions I got. It is a hard to find setup. Did you ask the shop where the brackets went?

Thank you Chris for your prompt reply. I have been searching high and low for these diagrams and have not been able to find them. The purchase of my 65 Mustang (A code, February build date 1965) was from a private seller and he had started to take the car apart to restore it but never finished. I received lots of parts in plastic bins and have been trying to determine what I have and what is missing for some time. At least with the part numbers, I can ask around to see if there are any for sale anywhere. Once again I thank you very much for being able to provide an answer to me.

Good luck. Took me a couple of years to find a complete kit. And it wasn’t cheap

Thanks Chris, you are a mine of information. I checked out www.allclassicmotors.com and although they don't offer it as a kit anymore, it appears they have almost all of the pieces I am after. I have placed an order and will inquire if they can get the the front pump bracket in as well as that is the only piece they don't have.
Thank you very much again for steering me in the right direction and likely saving me a lot of time.
George.
