Title: 65 Buck Tag Question
Post by: ChrisV289 on February 03, 2017, 09:40:20 PM
Have a gentlemen that would like more info about his car.  It is a late build 65 (26U date) out of New Jersey.  The buck tag has a D in the corner and 2 and H6 on the line below that follow by the VIN and then below that is 65A then M (Wimbledon white) and 22 (blue vinyl) and then V8 under that.  My question is what does the 2 and H6 mean?  Car has AC, power steering, front disc brakes, radio delete, and for some reason no side view mirrors on either side.  Not all that familiar with the buck tags and don't get to see them that often out here

Believe those are (2) bucking station (where they started assembling the body)  and (H6)date it was started if I understand their location on the tag

I took the last part of the VIN out as it is not my car...

+1 to Jeff's comments

In addition, (H6) is the date the body was bucked.  The buck tag date usually is close but does not match the door data plate date.  Also, the buck tag date is in reverse order compared to the date on the door data plate.  Second year of production codes were not used on buck tags, so if a Mustang was built in August of 1965, the door tag used the letter "V" for the month, but the buck tag used the letter "H".

Regards,

Ron

If the body was bucked August 6th that would make sense as to why the fenders have a July 28 and 29th date code and the hood has a 25 or 26th date code.  Yet the build date is 7/26/65.  Must have fell behind.

YEs someone in the office made a guess as of the date - and missed  ::)  Good thing their paychecks were not based on guessing correctly   LOL
