Title: Original Gas Cap

Can anyone identify if the 64 1/2 gas cap shown in the pictures is original or not? It is supposed to be from a May 64 mustang. it doesn't have the cable on the back and it has a "SM" surrounded by a "C".

smc would represent stant manufacturing corporation. so my opinion is it is an original piece.

Thanks for that. It's hard to find information like this for some parts as no reference book covers everything.  I wonder how many manufactures did make the gas caps? Here is a 65 version that is supposed to be original. The only markings I see on it are "USA".
