Disc brakes were optional equipment on non-GT 65-66 K codes also.

There was a disc brake master cylinder design change early in the '66 model year.  Searching the forum will provide more info.

Is it correct that manual disc brakes were optional on all 65's with a V8?

Yes, unless the car was ordered as a GT, then it came automatically with disc brakes.

Disc brakes in the mid 60's were not a popular option. They were a "new technology" and as such, the general feeling was to go with a proven braking system, drum brakes, on a new car purchase. By 1969 disc brakes began to be accepted.
This perception has been discussed previously.

I have a 65er export version and this has disc brakes original and also the export brace like the Shelby and is not a GT.

My 65 2+2 has few options, but it does have an A-code engine, 3 speed manual, 2 speed wipers and disc brakes. Plus, the unusual color of Raven Black. This was funeral car color in the early sixties and not as popular as it became in later decades.

So, not many options, but it does have disc brakes.

I have a 65 coupe project car with an A-code engine, pony interior, factory AC, disc brakes, etc. in Raven Black too.  Didn't realize it wasn't a popular color back then but makes sense.
