68 GT 350 Aircleaner Mounting
« on: July 18, 2014, 09:44:50 PM »
Does any one have a picture of a 68 GT350 air cleaner with the lid off showing the hardware mounting the base to the carb?
Built 12-02-67 if it matters.

Marty I am assuming you are using the air cleaner I sold you? If so there is no hardware under the lid. Base sits there, filter goes on and sadwiched when you put top on and attach wing nut. A pre recal base/lid is different but I dont think thats what you are looking for

The Build date was 12-02-67 # 602 and it was not brought in for the recall.
We have fabricated this structure so we would not have to drill another hole in the top
What I am asking is what hardware fastens the base to the carb?

Short length of threaded rod with nut that has captured spinning washer similar to battery hold down nuts.
Pre recall? so cast iron manifold and Marchals?

On that bracket with the large hole I was thinking of using a flat washer and a fiber lock nut. I will do the concours correct hardware when I restore the whole car. I am very concerned about hardware coming loose and being ingested in to the engine.
The car's VIN is 8T02J126886 built 12-02-67 It has the original Marchals and cast intake with the Autolite 4300. Interestingly it also has a 6A interior. I think most had the comfort weave knitted vinyl inserts.
Thanks for your help I plan to have it at the Lincoln MCA national show are you going to be able to make it?

You would think that was an issue but I've never heard of it happening. The reason I ask about VIN is my vert is 126778 built 12/1. Your car has tllt I assume?
I will not be at Lincoln, maybe Savannah

Yes it has tilt and AC. I wish you could have seen the car and given me a few tips. Thanks again!

If you are concerned about the nut working loose and falling in the carb you can also substitute a bolt in place of the threaded rod and nut(still use washer) . I have seen more then a few of that type of solution over the years and early 68.

And a little thread lock on the threads or a little aviation form a gasket
