Title: 64 1/2 Fuel Sock Removal from Sending Unit
Post by: FXguy on October 13, 2017, 08:37:49 PM
I have the original fuel sending unit for my 64 1/2 K code and it works fine, but I noticed a crack in the end of the fuel sock end nearest the pivot.  The filter material seems to be fine (no tears), but I'm thinking of replacing the sock anyways, just to avoid any future problems.  How do you remove the sock and replace?

Thanks,

-Scott

I typically twist one way and then the other way all the while putting pulling pressure on it. It can very very tight so you have to put sufficient pressure to get it to move. It should un thread off by doing it this way. It does for me. Sometimes it will crack and self destruct when trying to take it off . If you are lucky it will pull straight off with out much effort.

Consider using an OEM filter also...

Thanks Bob.  I started with that approach, we'll give it a little effort now that I know there isn't something else holding it on other than an interference fit.

Definitely, but thus far I have only seen the 3/8" OEM.  This needs the 5/16".  If you've got a source, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Thank you,
