Did 67 SJ cars with styled steel wheels get a matching spare or did they get a normal steel spare?

Bought my Dec 66 SJ car in 1980 from original owner, and it had (has) SS spare wheel, no trim ring. Original owner was not a tinkerer, so the car was unmolested. Only changes were typical consumables, and the thermactor system was pretty well gutted. John

I believe that they could have come either way. A owner that wanted a SS spare could have ordered it that way other wise it would have had the standard spare. Marty

Believe it would have been delivered to the dealer with a sheet wheel but a good salesman or a buyer that really wanted them all to match would explain how some got 5 matching wheels.

All five of mine are buried now since the car is on a rotisserie, but when I get a chance I will check date codes for all five. Can anyone tell me where to look for the code? Thanks John

This MAY be a clue! Perkins Restoration has an item on Ebay right now that is a PROTECTOR for a styled steel or Magnum 500 wheel ( can't remember which) that goes between the spare tire hold-down disk, and the wheel. It's obviously to keep the 5-spoke wheel from getting scratched up when securing the spare in the trunk.

For a styled steel (been a long time since I looked at the date on one of those) it may be on the rim

I called a Ford dealer friend who's family has run their dealership for 101 years and is the 5th oldest in the US. He said that he thought if you ordered SS wheels you should have gotten the SS spare. He remembers cars coming in with the standard wheel and no spare at all, all due to shortages. I think he is right because Ford made special jacking instructions for the SS wheel spare C8ZB-D Marty

Good point but the original question was for 67's. Don't recall if 67 had a different decal -65-66 didn't

You are right Jeff I got side tracked a bit. I am not aware of a jacking decal for 67 styled steel spare but it is interesting that the 67 SS wheel is pictured in the C8ZB-D decal. Marty
