Title: What is this part called and is it available? 69 Steering Wheel Insulator
Post by: Flye on November 20, 2023, 08:05:58 AM
Good morning;

69 Mustang.

It's in the steering wheel assembly, 3 spoke, rear portion of hub.

This is a (Nylon like?) 'ring' inside the rear of the steering wheel hub.  It somewhat 'floats' within a metal ring overlay as it bolts down to the head of the steering column.  This one is broken/cracked.  I've tried Epoxy which didn't hold.

What is it called?

Anyone ever seen it in aftermarket?  Since I don't know what it is called, I don't even know how to search.  No 'parts diagram' I can find shows it?

Thanks for any help.

it sure would help if we knew what model, type of wheel & year you have. suggest you add that info to your signature for best responses.

it looks like a ring used in round air conditioning vents if it is West Coast Classic Cougars may have it.

I added year/model/wheel and added a picture of it in the steering wheel assembly in original post.

Thanks,

Looks like the insulator for the wheel. Not available as a reproduction and don't recall ever seeing a NOS one. Might have to buy a well used steering wheel that is all cracked up to get one. Ford likely had a "official" name for it though that might do you little good 50 years later

Guess you can look the name up in the last version of the MPC. Go to the drawings first, find the base number then go to the text part, find the number then look up the application for the original part number and name
