Title: Engine Dampers
Post by: rodster on November 13, 2011, 04:16:43 PM

Any idea if the engine dampers were used on other Ford lines?  I know early 83 TBird Turbo Coupes used them but carried an E2 part number instead of the E3 which I believe was on the 84's as shown in the pictures.

I've always wondered when/why they were used (obviously to dampen shake) but I don't recall seeing them used very long.  Kind of a 'mystery part" to me.

This could be one of those very hard to find concours parts????

OK, thanks.

I did an internet search and SUSPA inc. still seems to be in business.  They have a contact section so I sent an inquiry. After all these years, there's probably no one left at the company from the 80's.   ::)

I'm sure I remember seeing something very similar engine shock on an 83 or 84 V-6 convertible.

Rod, any chance you could take that pick of the part number with a tape measure next to it for scaling???

The picture I attached is just a 'file photo' I have so I won't be able to get a picture with a scale.  :(

Contacted SUSPA and here's what they had to say.

Unfortunately, we have not made those dampers in years.  The point of
them was purely to help reduce vibration transmission from the engine to
the body - they are not critical to the vehicle for use.

The are no longer available.  I wish I could be of more help, but these
are long gone.

Seems SHO's used a damper too.

I have a NOS set of those (SVO dampners) - available too.

Seems SHO's used a damper too.

What is the part number?

Maybe a comparison of this SHO part to the SVO part will allow for an alternative solution?

There some other generic aftermarket versions out there not specific for Fords.
