Hi fellas
I have weakened and decided to register as you seem like a friendly bunch. ;D
I wish to ask a question, On what cars was a rubber strip fixed to the radiator support by the factory, and what years.

On 65-66 cars, it was installed on 6 cyl. cars. Later years, it was typically installed on 6 cyl. and big block cars. Shelby's too. I'm sure others will give a more exact response to the 67-up portion.

Charles, thanks for the welcome congrats on getting another great resource up and running.
I am still interested in the other applications for this strip, as if it was found to be of significant benefit in aiding cooling on the later cars, I may well fit one too, but only a push on version so as not to damage the support top edge.

So now I know a '65 V8 did not have the sealing strip would there be any benefit in fitting one ?.
Has anyone had positive results with a stock rad/ fan setup.

As long as you glue or clip it in place I'm sure you would get some slight benefit - some well educated engineer(s) must figured they would do some good :)

Personally, I don't think it makes any measurable difference if you are run the original fan, spacer and shroud. Ford engineers would have added it on the
hipo's if it did. If it was my car, I would keep it original. Also, this car is in the UK and it's not the Texas heat.

To the best of my memory, the little rubber strip across the core support on the 65 and 66 Mustangs was put there because of an icing problem with the carb on the six cylinder motors causing the engine to die during warm up during cold weather. The carb sticks up directly in the path of the cold air. The air passing between the hood and the core support would flow past the body of the carb and cause it to freeze or ice causing all kinds of driveability problems. As for later applications it seems to be directed more toward cooling issues than frosty carbs.

Hi John, trust you are well, interesting point on the icing issue, I have another car that suffers badly with this in the winter.
Bo I'll have you know we can hit 30 deg c, ( for about 4 hours a year) ;D
Guess I'll leave the strip off if it has no great effect.
