1965 V8 Disc brake spindles

For 65's V8's I've seen C4 and C5 spindles and mention of 'early' or 'late'.  Was there a change over period and what are the differences between all the different spindles? 

My 65 currently has Granada spindles and hardware so I need to learn a lot before I start buying parts.

Hmmmm, no replies in all this time...and I still haven't learned anything about 65 Disc brake spindles and/or other parts.   ;)  The only thing I've noticed is that good original parts aren't too cheap so I'd like to know what I'm buying is 'correct'.

The V8 drum and disc spindles are the same, an adapter was used to mount the calipers. As you stated you have Granada spindles, you entered the realm of modified. The Granada was produced from 1975 to the early 80's and I have no idea what is interchangeable with a 65 Mustang's brakes.

No such thing as disc brake spindles for 65-66, all V8 were the same.

Ditto on the spindles.  The caliper bracket that mounts to the spindle is a good starting point.  Eng. # 2B134-R.H. and 2B135-L.H.  Then calipers, dust shield, rotor, master cyl and distribution block.  Mustang Restoration Guide/Corcoran & Davis is a good resource and reference book you might want to pick up.  Brian

Now we're getting somewhere.  ;D

I'm thinking maybe jwc66k meant the same thing, all V8 (drum and disc) spindles are the same, anyhow,  thanks for the info. 

Part of the confusion for me is the way sellers list the spindles..... V8 drum spindle, V8 disc spindle, V8 Drum spindle -can be used for disc brakes, etc etc

I'm guessing the C5ZZ-3106- spindles are correct for 65 V8's and C3 part number would be a 6 cyl spindle?

For some reason I thought there was a C4 part number for an early 65 V8 w/ disc brakes?  Maybe more confusion on my part?  ???

Thanks for the info and the reference book referral.  I'll pick one up. Knowing the 'best' resource guides is sometimes difficult too!  ;)

That book is ok for the Ford drawings, but I would take any commentary with a grain of salt.  Even the Ford drawings may not be correct for the application.  Guess I would suggest a Ford master parts catalog would be of the same value in regards to drawings and such.

For the "disc brake" spindles, I believe sellers that advertise them as being unique to disc brakes are trying to make their parts stand out and get more $$ out of them.  Simple case of buyers needing to be knowledgeable so they don't get burned.

I have a set of 1966 spindles, with drum brakes installed.  Everything is there: hubs, backing plates, cylinders, shoes, hardware, and drums.  One of the drums is original (C3DA-1125A) the other is a replacement.    I know your looking for disks but the spindles might get you started.  If it sounds like something your interested in PM me.

Do not get part numbers and part marking confused. A "C5ZZ-" prefix indicates a stock number and one that was used as a service replacement and is not stamped, cast or etched on the part. A "C5ZA-", "C5ZB"-, or "C5ZC-" etc, prefix is the engineering, assembly line and most likely what would be marked on the part. In your case, Mustang spindles were originally used on Falcons and would have a casting number of "C5DA-3107-B" and "C5DA-3108-B". This is the best way to identify them. There may be earlier part numbers (C3DA- or C4DA-) cast into the spindles that were used on 1964 1/2 Mustangs. Spindles used on I-6 Mustangs have a different cast in part number and I don't deal with sixes.

Great information...thank you sir!  :)  That clears a lot up for me.

Good advice. I remember hearing that before but believe it's somewhat difficult to find the single year versions?  When I looked before I was finding a final version printed in 1975.

Resurrecting this topic because it has a lot of good information in it.

I bought the C5DA spindles to replace my Granada swap since the styled steel wheels won't clear the caliper. 

The issues I see with the C5DA spindle are:
1.  Spindle nut and washer for the mustang doesn't fit  (found 3/4-16 fits. Dorman 05190). 
2.  I only get 3 1/2 turns of the steering wheel from stop to stop.  The manual says it should be 4 5/8 turns of the steering wheel stop to stop for my HCC-AT box.

I hope someone has a solution to problem for #2.

Take a look at your wheel stops.  Picture is of the L/drivers side on my 65
