New 4 rivet reproduction 1967 - 1970 upper A arms
« on: July 29, 2018, 10:31:58 AM »
I have long wondered why on earth there has always been a reproduction of the D5 three rivet service part when 99% of the folks restoring these cars want the four rivet C7ZZ version?

Well it has finally happened. It would be so much better if it were not powder coated black. If it was in bare metal it would be so much better. Does anyone know who the actual manufacturer might be? It would be cheaper to make them the right way.

4 rivet uppers have been reproduced for a fair number of years. Not perfect (reproduction often aren't) but they can be improved and the maker vacillated for years between a number of years between cleared, painted, bare and so on but if you wanted you could normally get them bare steel if you knew who to ask.

Not sure what they are currently selling but here are a few pictures of those arms from a while back. They are only about 10 minutes from me and I've found them, in the past, easy to work with so if I want just the bare arms I can get those. If I want them to rivet the ball joints in place with a certain (they have about 2 dozen waffle patterns) they will do that for me

Of course the zert fitting would not be left on the final part installed ;)

Fully assembled A arm believe this is an original.  There repo ball joints had some non-factory markings at one time of course this would not matter if you were purchasing just the A arms and finishing them yourself ;)

Bare arms as purchased.
I liked the fresh stretch/forming marks in or on the metal since these often get lost when cleaning originals.
Punch out in the center of the arm is something that can be addressed - sharper that original edges on one side in these examples. Not sure what current ones have.

I know at one time the ball joints that were being used had a shorter thread and you had to use a shorter castle nut instead of the correct one so that the cotter pin would line up with the hole and work. I hope that has changed.

Not sure of your name over there, but there is a minimum post requirement for some features to become available. 5 posts I think. I am 69GT350H on VMF as well.

It also should be noted that is copied after the C6 arm. Wouldn't be correct from about March 68-April 69 which used cutback style

Tim,
I have purchased a set of those a few years back. Mainly just to see how close they weee to originals. They are much closer to the cut back style than the C6 version. They are very nice pieces though better than any other repro out there for sure.

Checked with them (Rare Parts) the other day for another member and they had about 30 bare ones in stock. Not sure if they will be doing any more in that finish unless we got together a group purchase in the future.

Just reporting ;)

Yes Allen said he would sell the remaining bare (no paint or finish) A arms to people that contacted them. They are just the upper A arms that you can work from there with

800 number is just fine for this

Any idea if they will sell them without the 'RP' stamping?

Not sure if these from an earlier batch even have the stampings. Older ones didn't have the markings
