I’m in the midst of replacing two door skins on a pair of 66’ doors. Curious what other people are using for the replacement insulator or sound deadener strip that was originally a felt type material? This would be the strip that is held on with staples and sandwiched between the inner door frame/horizontal bar, and the outer door skin. Thanks for a reply .

I used Dynamat. Its self adhesive and comes in a roll.

Others may have different options.

Thanks Chris. I will have to be inventive since I do not have any Dynamat left over myself. I've heard a few using roof felt , the thick paper material used before shingles are applied, but I believe that is too thin. I'm going to try an arts/craft store to see if they have anything similar to the original felt strip.

I would make sure that anything you choose will not absorb water as probable rust issues  may occur over time in that sandwiched in area - just something to think about.

Thanks Kurt and I totally agree. Not sure if the original was coated in oil? but I am reading that the sound deadener was applied before the door was assembled which is what I will be doing. This will put a coating of deadener between the strip and the door so I am thinking this will help prevent any rust in the future. I will try and remember to take some pics and add them here just for reference, for future readers.
