F code Fastback?
« on: November 06, 2019, 04:12:31 PM »
Been trying to get the seller to see the hidden VINs but hasn’t yet. I feel bad for those bidding on it as the VIN might be altered

Hard to say why this is the way it is - Likely a mis-stamp. Visible VIN can be seen in the one picture. Wonder if the door tag matches.   Would guess that the hidden Vins (at least on the drivers side will match since the same worker and machine would have stamped both.

What would be really rare would be the same car with a number in the engine code spot

Said the door tag is missing of course. Question though, was San Jose even using the letter F in other lines on VINs at that time of production to get a mis stamp? If it wasn’t being used why would it be available to be placed in the stamping tool?

Have no idea (never talked to a worker assigned that position) that station was laid out. Don't know if there were multiple complete sets of dies (so that they could cover 99999 for example) or they had a limited number of stamps available As usual we're left to guess

Interesting that the door tag is missing. In CA doors are not swapped out at the same rate as you will find in other parts of the country since we don't have the same rust issues

Would be nice tot see one of the VINs up close just in case it is a restamp by someone other than the plant

Does anyone live near Pomona? He pulled the listing and would like a judge come look at it.

Not really. The engine code is "6" for low compression 302-2V / Export vehicles. I think Mexican made Ford cars may also have used this code.

Not to get far off topic but there were other numbers used also for countries with minimal usable fuel standards
