Restoring 68 A/C Blower Motor Housing Finish
« on: January 11, 2021, 02:50:26 PM »
Looking for recommendations on fiberglass 68 A/C box blower housing restoration. I needed to replace the blower motor housing and the extra one I had is in excellent condition but the color has faded.  What is the best process to get that gray/black finish?  In the past I have used just a light coat of a matt clear on the box with great results but those boxes still had uniform color.

And i believe Coralsnake does mean beads, as in glass balls. The crap HF sells is just chopped up glass with many sharp edges.
I use this:
https://www.amazon.com/Blast-Media-Glass-Beads-Medium/dp/B0086A7KYU/ref=pd_all_pref_n_1/136-0986667-6430959?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0086A7KYU&pd_rd_r=d8cd5d0b-a988-461f-aeb1-904fcdd70d28&pd_rd_w=7m4yb&pd_rd_wg=2Phpz&pf_rd_p=36d0712f-e8f6-49f0-8101-fe2ba60e1597&pf_rd_r=6420Y72T89T06R9HFSES&psc=1&refRID=6420Y72T89T06R9HFSES

Although if you have a local outlet for media supplies you can buy this for 1/4 the cost without a name brand.

Try using polish first before blasting, sometimes they will come up nice enough to retain the original surface.  Also, a satin clearcoat can help make them look better.

I'm not a big fan of blasting as it makes the surface a little rough, but it does help to take out stains/inconsistencies in the appearance.

Evaporust is another option which surprisingly can work well.

Charles,

I think I will try polishing first. What polish do you recommend?

Thanks, Dave
