J hook, nut and washer for spare tire - 1967 1/67 build date
« on: February 06, 2023, 01:06:44 PM »
My spare is a 5 spoke MagStar. I do not have my original J hook, nut or washer for my spare. I see NPD sells several, but none are exact matches to the original I don't believe. I can't find any on the Branda site. Anyone have a recommended vendor or best match for the 1967 MagStars? I know it is supposed to be like "C" in the attachment. Thanks.

It would be good to list out the assemblies for Magstar, 10 spoke and steel too!

Actually the length and diameter thread etc. is like C but the hook end was like a thinner version of the B picture. A exact one is not reproduced. I have only seen a few genuine for sale in all my years of looking and keeping a weary eye. The C version which is the space saver spare hook is the closest you will find plus the hook end is invisible once installed. The B hold down is very obvious wrong larger diameter when observed in the trunk.  The original hook is the same for Tenspoke and Magstars. I am not sure about the steel hubcap wheel like I am for the Magstar and Ten spoke but I can't think of a reason for it not to be he same.  Is Scott out of them still?  No Jim I don't have a part number ;) ;D

The "C" is 11" while the one believed to be original by s412gofast looks to be maybe 9 1/2". I guess more like 2-A here, https://www.npdlink.com/search/products?search_terms=spare%2Bwheel%2Bbolt&top_parent=200001&year= rather than like the concours 1969 Shelby 7-A. I didn't realize there is no stock around. I guess I am sol anyway.

Looking at my pictures and notes yes that looks to be genuine. The 11 inch 69/70 Shelby and Boss space saver bracket as I said is the closest thing that is being reproduced. It is a little too long and and not the same hook but it will be hard to distinguish once installed. Before Scott made up his many of us had to take two hooks and with cutting and welding make up something that would work. Just don't use the thicker one as that is a obviously wrong to the informed eye.

If someone could lay an unmounted Magstar and 10 spoke flat on a table and measure from the table to the highest point where the cap is installed that could help us out.
The area where the cap is installed is taller than where the lug nuts are located (in cross section).
The rim width is 7".

The steel wheel has its center hole in roughly the same plane as the lug nut location. And the rim width is 6".

If the same J hook were used on all three then the steel wheel would show a lot more threads.

That should work!

I have yet to locate our original Wheel Mounting Plate (referred to as washer in topic subject line)

What is the correct one for a 67 shelby with Magstars?

The small one is for the small hole in the deluxe wheel of ether Magstar or Ten Spoke . The larger style is for the larger center on the steel wheel.

7 3/4"

Thanks!

The Shelby 6" steel wheel without a tire has a maximum depth at the center (floor to highest ridge) of 4.5".

With a 3 1/4" difference in height the long J hook is doubtful here.

Branda had these one day and the next day I got a call saying they had none. There are some on EBay at 3/8" and 9" long, but the hook part doesn't look quite right. They are not reproductions though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/264030627300
