D code - Starter Cable bracket picture
« on: February 25, 2012, 02:14:07 PM »
Does anyone have a picture that shows the correct positioning of the two clamps that mount to the motor mount bolts and hold the starter cable in position?  1964 1/2, D-code V-8.

Thanks.

John

The bracket (maybe two) are between the bolt and the mount, angled out and down a bit for the cable to clear the bracket and manifold. If you have a heat shield, it goes between the mount and the engine.

First question is always (if you don't provide it ) is;

John when and where was your car built? (or a guess from the door tag info ;)

Open to speculation I suppose.  The clamp is unique as it has a lock tab to hold the ends together.

John-
   Is it these clamps:

If so, I'd like to see a picture also. I have a set but haven't installed them as I'm not sure if they're correct to use on my coupe.

Since John and I both have D-codes, were these originally used from the factory?

Yes those are the clamps I was referring to.  My car has two, but they've always just hung off of the starter cable and were never bolted to anything.  There is also a woven fiber sleeve over the starter wire that fits in there someplace too.  It is much like the sleeve that is over the oil pressure sensor wire, only much larger in diameter.

I actually need one of those too.  Someone was making those in their garage and getting $35 dollars a pop for them.  I can't remember if I saw them here or over on the Vintage Ford Mustang website.
