WTB: 260 Intake Manifold Bolts ("F" head)
« on: June 04, 2014, 10:43:32 PM »
I'm looking for 12 original intake manifolds bolts for a 64.5 restoration project.  Also need exhaust manifolds and bolts.  Manifolds must be dated prior to Mar 18, 1964.  Thanks!

Friendly FYI... the late April '64 260 car I just finished had 'L5' intake bolts.

Thx for the fyi.  Do you know if the L5 bolt is concours correct for the intake manifold and if so, where I can find a set?

Absolutely.  AMK may have them.

Original bolts are not always the best option, especially ones subjected to extreme heat (like exhaust manifold bolts). You might consider AMK, 304722-S2 3/8-16x1 1/4 (AMK B-12643) and 304830-S 3/8-16x2.0 (AMK B-12645). They are the correct grade 5 and have the "F" head marking. You will need two sets each. Get a new set of locks as well, C2OE-9A447-A (AMK B-11333, set of 8). A word of warning, the locks are stainless.

I found some additional head markings: two different sizes of "F" (a large and small, AMK supplied the large); a "C" with an "H" inside; a "J.M." on the edge (maybe a Home Depot bolt). All were grade 5. No "L5" head markings but that may mean I just don't have any. These 3/8-16 bolts appear to be unique for exhaust manifold use only, no other application. Just for reference, they are 1 1/4 and 2.0 inch long, not fully threaded (1.0 inch thread length).

Jim:  The L5 bolts I was referring to are intake bolts, not exhaust manifold.  He is looking for both though.  The AMK exhaust manifold bolts are pretty good.  I think they have the L5 intake bolts too.  Only reason I mentioned those is because that's what I found original on a late April '64 260 car.

I found three manifold bolts (378484-S) in my box of 5/16 bolts with a L5 head marking and one blank (not to many Mustangs get their engines stripped). AMK does carry them, B-12508, complete with the rubber coated aluminum washer. Their picture shows a L5 marking.
For reference, AMK carries the washer as F-702, 12 pieces.
