Title: 9.8 Head marking
Post by: Sunlitgold68 on January 27, 2010, 10:55:09 AM
I have 2 bolts with a "9.8" stamped on top, one of the bolts secures the rear fuel line to body I think. Not sure where the other one goes, are these bolts cadmium?

Fuel line attaching bolts should be zinc. Rear axle vent tube to body clamp used a similar bolt (self-tapping threads).

I believe it is the axle vent tube, large bolt with 9.8 on the head. Is that suppose to be zinc?

The 9.8 is a metric bolt and I have never seen these on any domestic car before the late 70's.

I highly doubt this bolt has ever been removed from this car until now. I could be wrong of course but it would really surprise me... anybody else know anything about this bolt, the rear axle vent hose bolt, stamped (M) on top and # 9.8 on it.

What did you find out? I would have to agree 9.8 markings are Metric fastener markings.
