Exhaust Hanger Rivets
« on: December 23, 2014, 02:32:17 AM »
I am in the process of restoring my original exhaust hangers for my '70 BOSS 302.  Does anyone have a source for the 3/8" dia. flat head semi-tubular rivets or someone who does this riveting?  I found the 1/4" X 1/2" rivets but not the others.

Are you talking about the forward muffler hangers or rear hangers...or both?

Scott,

The rear hangers that mount to the frame next to the gas tank.  They use a flat hear semi-tubular rivet that are not stock items anywhere I have looked.  I've tried to have them quoted but the manufacturers want a minimum of 10,000 pcs.  There are two length 3/8" X 3/4" Flat Head Rivets used per assembly.  One would be 1" long where the rubber is doubled and the other is 11/16" long.  The rear hanger that bolts to the muffler uses a more off the shelf 1/4" X 1/2" Oval Head that would be either 9/16" or 5/8" long.

I was unsuccessful in finding the correct flat head rivets too.  So I'm having them made for the new hangers I'm having made.  I'll probably have the rivets/hangers in about 6-months.  I'd be happy to give you some but don't know if 6-months fits your timeline.

It would fit my timeline though, Those rivets look pretty much exactly the same as those in the 67-69 style resonator hangers. Actually, the rivets and rubber hoops look identicle to those in the hangers previously pictured (with the hooped rubber) I have at least one, possibly two that could use the rubber hoop replaced on it (some cracks). Is there a good source for the OE style rubber as well?  That one I could use replacing is the right side & is mostly all black rubber, the two driver's side resonator hangers I have are both mostly white rubber and one looks rather good, while the other white LS hanger is middle-of-the road quality.

The rubber on these hangers are actually made from the sidewalls of tires.  Most of mine from two full sets have the whitewall section running through them.

Scott, that would be great!  The timeline will not be an issue.  I have two sets of originals that I am restoring and a new reproduction set.  I have only disassembled one set of the originals so if I get to that point I will use the repops in the interim.

Thanks, Tim

Scott, were you able to get these rivets? I still need to rebuild my hangers. Let me know are interested in doing assembly.
