Windshield Carlite Logo
« on: July 01, 2010, 11:31:36 PM »
HI Folks!
Just wondering if anyone has the measurements for the windshield Carlite Logo on a 65 SJ build. Stupid me tossed out the old winshield before I decided to etch my own logo.
Thanks,

Just remember if you try this route that the original Carlite winshield logo is seen in reverse from outside the car. The etching was done on the interior side of the glass at the lower center bottom, and you should be able to read it correctly from inside the car.  On the outside of the car, the etching would look "reversed".

I see this alot on repop winshields...where the logo can be read from the outside of the car. All the original winshields I have have it being viewed as correct from the inside of the car.

Just an observation..

Pilkington glass made my 65 SJ glass with the correct date code 3 weeks ago.  Unfortunately the guy who did their etching was killed in an explosion shortly after finishing my glass.  I think he had an apprentice that was learning from him that can hopefully recreate the carlite and other logos.  The logo turned out perfect.  No complaints here.  They can put the logo where you want it and how you want it read (from the inside or outside).

Thanks for the reference for glass, I will contact them for a quote. I have a correct logo etching kit on order but I was looking for the front windshield logo placement measurements. Another question while I am at it, does anyone know if the tinted band on the front windshield was originally blue , green , or smoked?
Thanks,

On my original 66, the logo on the windshield measures from the bottom of the glass to the bottom edge of the oval carlite logo is 1 1/2" it doesn't seem to be centered side to side mine being about 3/8" off (closer to the passenger side).

Chris,

Is there any chance that you could post a picture of the logo?  I know it is tough to take a picture of, but I've seen some places do them, and the logo is just not quite correct.

I used P S Auto Glass in Wisconsin to provide the glass for my '65.
They questioned me as to IF my car still had the original windsheild (which it did) and they told me that the logos could be either way and they felt it just depended on the supplier to Ford and the time frame that the glass was originally etched.
Bottom line is that P S did a GREAT job on my windsheild and roll-up glass-the new (sun-x) glass they provided matches the 45 year old vents and quarters perfectly-Amazing!!!!

Will try to post a picture tonight of the logo Brant.  Haven't had a chance too lately.  The car is kind of put away for the summer since it's 115 over here in PHX and its even hotter in the garage.
